Fantastic Video in a Tamper/Vandal Resistant Mini Dome PackageIf you are looking for a small, mini dome for outdoor applications you've found it. This is the smallest, hardened tamper resistant mini dome camera with an outdoor rating on the market. Sealed against rain, snow, and wind-blown dust, this mini dome is perfect for placing under the eaves on a garage or home.
This mini dome measures just over 3 inches in diameter (3.11 inches across at the base) and is perfect for indoor placement as well. Fitting in the palm of your hand, the 558T is also equipped with a Sony Super HAD camera sensor for industry leading video quality and an industry standard 3.6mm lens. The inner board camera is mounted on a ball-and-socket assembly that gives you full aiming flexibility. Mounting screws are concealed within the case, so the camera can NOT be removed without disassembly. A recessed set screw built into the case prevents the housing from being opened without destroying it, cutting down on casual vandalism or tampering. The video/power cord is designed to be routed through the mounting surface (wall or ceiling), so it is not exposed to possible harm from weather, or cutting or pulling (a routing channel is built into the base in case you don't want to feed the cable through the wall/ceiling or eave). All of these features, combined with hardened alloy construction and a tough acrylic dome (tested to withstand 10lb sledgehammer attacks) mean this camera is likely to survive a vandal's attack and capture the attempt for later arrest and prosecution if necessary. And no racoon or squirrel is going to be able to harm it.
Sony Super HAD Video Sensor Provides Superior Images in Low LightSony Super HAD CCD video sensors are designed to provide a superior image in low light conditions.
HAD stands for Hole Accumulation Diode, which is a manufacturing technique developed by Sony Corporation to reduce the effect of so-called "dark" current that originates spontaneously in CCD sensors in the absence of light. Heat and unavoidable imperfections at the atomic level can cause random electrons to move about in the semi-conductor of the imaging chip. This electron displacement creates a positive charge, or a "hole". By placing another semi-conductor layer (a diode layer) beneath the CCD imaging layer this charge can be automatically accumulated and pulled out of the imaging layer, thus eliminating "dark" current video noise at the source. The end result is a clearer image generated in low light conditions, making this camera a great choice for settings where you need to deal with unavoidable shadows and large areas that are deliberately kept in subdued light. In short, the Sony video sensor in this camera gives it outstanding video quality in low light.
